We say goodbye...

We got word today that her enzyme levels were even worse. We decided she had suffered enough and decided to put her down tonight. She fought so valiantly and bravely, but this was just too much for her. We wanted her home so badly, but moreso, we wanted her to not suffer anymore.

Thank you to any who supported us, to those who have followed along, and to those who gave words of encouragement. It was all appreciated so much, I only wish this had a better outcome.

In sadness,
Michelle

her kidneys arent doing too good

Sorry I didnt update last night, I was a bit overwhelmed. We are basically giving her through today to see if this last hurdle can be overcome, or if we need to go ahead and let her go.

As of yesterday they tested her kidney enzymes and they were apparently way out of control. The docs have once again gone oh yeah.... so thats the reason this is happening. *sigh* I'm a bit frustrated, and tense, and sad. I am just singing and praying and hoping she overcomes this. I am headed out now to go check on her once more before they test her levels again this afternoon. Will update then.

Thanks,

Michelle

Kepping down food, but....

Called this morning, one of the regular vet techs said she seems depressed today. Just not much interest in anything. Gah just when we get food going, it seems her mood is shifting. Keep praying please. I am soooooooooo hoping this isnt the beginning of the end. I'm not ready to give up on her. :(

Held down a bit of canned food today...

The vets force fed her this morning, about half of a 'catfood size' can of soft dog food. Shes also still been eagarly drinking water. The food stayed down for the most part, though momma made her sick when trying to feed her more. We think I made her gag. *sighs* But thankfully it was mostly just water. Soo most of the food had already gone through her system from this morning. Vets said they were going to feed her more again later.

More job hunting for me tomorrow. I will update as I am able tomorrow.

Thanks,
Michelle

A lil slide backwards again

Shrew threw up a few minutes before I visited her around 730 tonight. Doc said he thought she may have kinked her cord and stopped receiving the anti nausea medicine though. He let me give her some more water and i basically forecefed her a few bites of baby food. Heading in after church tomorrow. Will update again then.

Arg... trying to be positive...

Shes still not keeping down food. They were administering another set of medication when Robert was getting ready to leave at 8:30cst. We truly just wait and hope to God that a miracle happens overnight and she starts eating tomorrow. Pray please... good thoughts... whatever is your custom. We would appreciate any good karma sent her way.

Thanks..

Nala doesnt like medicine

Nala still isnt able to keep food down. However, the doc says that might be more medicine related than internally related. Apparently they gave her a shot today and 20 minutes later she threw up. Soo they are going to play with meds some more today, and try some water this evening again.

She doesnt seem to be wretching as much, 3 times yesterday, compared to none today. And when I take her for walks, she wants to keep going before I turn her around. Not to mention she still has the desire to get a drink of water. The poor thing, her cage is right in front of their restroom and one of the gals left it open. I couldnt figure out why she was trying to get up all of a sudden until I saw the door open and the toilet in open view. I can imagine all that was running through her head. toilet..... thirsty..... DRINK... I quickly asked one of the techs to close it. This does give me hope though... cause she still *wants* to drink.

Robert will be going by tonight before they close, I will try to get an update from him.

Thanks for the continued support folks!

Still not eating, but were getting closer

Okay so 2nd day after her return to surgery and she seems to be truly getting better now. Shes showing spurts of energy and even starting to favor the left leg a bit. Of course this doesnt stop her from trying to haul me all over creation at the vets when I take her for walks. The tops of her toes are starting to get a bit scrapped from walking on the knuckles instead of the pads of her feet. The doc says that if she continues to recover and is needing up more he will cast that leg in the proper position to allow to heal more and so that she doesnt wear out her knuckles.

Eating is our major hurdle still. They are going to start giving her a bit of water in the morning, if she does well then she will get some chicken broth and maybe even some solids by tomorrow night.

Thank you to all those who have donated and sent e-mails to Robert. I will try to keep everyone updated.

I think she might be coming around...

I went in to see her this evening and was happy to see some very minimal improvements. For one, she sat up immediately when she heard me come in. I had gotten her a squeaky toy today in hopes of cheering her up, She perked up her ears when she heard it and even tried to nibble at it a bit. She also went for 2 walks today, she was even tugging at the lead. Good old Nala showing through a bit there. She still cant really tell when she is setting down her left foot flatly. Doc says that if it doesnt correct soon, they will put her in a cast. Eventually if the numbness and paralysis in the foot continues they will make her a boot that will keep her foot straight so she doesnt tear up her knuckles. Soo a bit of good today, but still not looking really great. She needs to start eating within the next 2 days or she will start declining. We cross our fingers and wait now.

Thank you to any who have been checking up on this blog.

I had to go back to surgery today :(

I am Michelle, Nala's mom. We thought it might be a good idea to start this journal so people could check up on how she is doing.

So far it hasn't been good. She hasnt been able to keep down any food and barely any water. The vets were getting worried and at around 6 pm today decided to take her back into surgery. Finally at 10 we got a call that she was out of surgery. The vet said she had a "leaky tummy" with lots of "debris" that had to be cleaned out.

I took this to mean that they apparently missed a bit of damage that the bullet did to her on Weds. Soooo they said she was pretty depressed today and that the next two days will be a deciding factor in how things turn out. Her chances right now are estimated at 50/50. If she doesnt start to recover by Friday that will significantly decline.

I will do my best to update this each day after I visit with her. Hopefully we will have good news tomorrow. The doc did say she was already sitting up after the surgery tonight. Keeping our fingers crossed. Thanks for taking an interest if you are here.
